Chan Master Ben Xing successfully graduated from China Buddhist Academy in Beijing and Post- graduate Institute of Buddhist Studies of Kelaniya University in Colombo. He had learned Mahayana Chan from the Most Ven Ming Yang, the late abbot of Beijing Guangji Temple, and Theravada Chan from the Most Ven Vipurasara, the late abbot of Parama Dharma Cetiya Pirivena of Colombo. He has visited more than forty countries, and delivered speeches on Chan over thirty times in Northern America, Western Europe and Southeast Asia, etc. In 2012, he was awarded "Contribution to Buddhism Prize" by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka at the presidential palace; in 2015, he received "World Buddhist Leaders' Contribution Prize" by World Buddhist Fellowship in Bangkok.
He has founded many institutions, like Chinese Buddhist International Cultural and Educational Center in Los Angeles of U.S.A., Mahayana Buddhist Research Center in Bangkok of Thailand, Kaiyuan Buddhist Cultural Research Institute in Fujian Province of China, Fuzhou Kaiyuan Zhiye Cultural Educational Charity Foundation in Fujian Province of China, Chan Master Ming Yang Memorial Hall in Fuzhou City, and Pingtan Center of Exchange and Experience about Chan across Straits such non-profit organizations, etc. He initiated to set up Buddhist Forum of Maritime Silk Road in the 21" century.He determines to deliver public speeches on dharma, to practice Chan, to recite Amitabha, to conduct Buddhist education, to write articles and books about Buddhism, to build temples to settle down monks, and to engage in activity of charity and welfare. At the present time, he serves as a Standing Director of Buddhist Association of China, General Vice-president of Fujian Provincial Buddhist Association, Principal of Fujian Buddhist Academy, Director of Kaiyuan Buddhist Cultural Research Institute of Fujian Province, Abbot of Fuzhou Kaiyuan Temple, and Abbot of Taining Qingyun Temple.
