Our Dashain Sale starts today. From 6 to 12 October, every one of our 50,000+ titles is 20% off, on booksmandala.com with code DASHAIN and at our Baluwatar store in Kathmandu. Online, the sale runs until midnight on the 12th, Nepal time. In the shop, it runs until closing time that day. It is not applicable on used books or already discounted titles, and that is the only fine print.
One code online, nothing to remember in the shop.
Online, fill your cart and type DASHAIN at checkout. There is no minimum spend and no category limit, so one Nepali paperback gets the same 20% as a stack of hardcovers. The code works on orders from Kathmandu, from Pokhara and from abroad, because we ship across Nepal and worldwide.
In person, come to Books Mandala Baluwatar, take your time on the shelves, and the 20% comes off at the counter. No code needed.
Sorted by who it is for, because that is how Dashain shopping actually works.
For a parent who reads, start with 's memoir of her mother, one of our top twenty sellers since it came out. It is funny, furious and very tender, and it is the rare book a parent and a grown child can both read and then argue about.
For the cousin who only reads in Nepali, is the safe bet. Karnali Blues, a son's memory of his father in the far west, is still the novel people press on each other, and Eklo is the one to pick up next. Our full shelf is there if they already own both.
For a brother or sister, two that have barely left our bestseller shelf this year. for the sibling who cries at endings, for the one who says they don't. We wrote about both in .
For the children who will be home for two weeks, Wonder by for the ones starting a new class this year, and 's Matilda for the ones who have already read everything else. The section has a lot more.
For the relative abroad who misses home, send Nepal in English. 's Palpasa Café, which won the Madan Puraskar, 's Kathmandu in The City Son, and 's The Tutor of History.
And one for you, for the two weeks off. 's Atomic Habits is still on our bestseller shelf, and a festival break is a good place to start a new habit.
The sale ends before the festival begins, so order early.
Ghatasthapana falls on Sunday 11 October this year, and Vijaya Dashami Tika on Wednesday 21 October. The sale closes on the 12th, the day after Ghatasthapana, which gives every order time to arrive before Tika.
If the books are going outside the Valley, order early in the sale week rather than on the last night, because couriers get busy as the city empties for the festival. Delivery charges inside Nepal and abroad are on our page.
